Have You Heard About How Effective EMDR Therapy Can Be?
- Have you been in therapy before, but didn’t see the results you were hoping for?
- Do you have a sense that past trauma is impacting your emotions in the present?
- Is past trauma impacting your family, professional, or romantic relationships?
When traumatic experiences go largely untreated without the help of a trained EMDR therapist, we tend to believe that the impact of that trauma on our emotions is normal and just part of who we are now.
Untreated Past Trauma Can Feel Like There Is Something Inherently “Wrong” With You; EMDR Therapy Can Help
At Quantum, our holistic therapists prefer to focus on what happened to you, rather than what is “wrong” with you. Society, cultural, and family messaging is so quick to judge and shame rather than try to understand that our emotional capacity is just a product of past experiences. The holistic counselors at Quantum also prefer to frame therapy as oftentimes more “unlearning” old stories and habits rather than learning something new.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is largely viewed today as the gold standard to treat specific underlying trauma and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), especially for folks who have had prior therapy without seeing results. Research studying EMDR has found it to be tremendously effective in treating everything from anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and borderline-personality disorder (BPD) to chronic pain and underlying root-cause childhood trauma or trauma occurring during the adult years.
EMDR therapy supports individuals like yourself in processing recent or old traumatic memories which may be impacting you emotionally, physically, or in relationships. Fears of abandonment, anxiety, anger, and shutting down are all possible clues that EMDR counseling may be right for you. While it may seem strange, cutting edge neuroscience has found that a combination of somatic therapy, talk therapy, and eye movements can allow for overwhelming memories and associated emotions to be reprocessed and repaired through repetition with a trained therapist. The holistic EMDR therapists at Quantum like to think of these traumatic memories similar to a computer virus; a corrupted “file” that we have to locate, repair, and file away again so that it doesn’t impact the larger system’s functioning within you.
